A hearing in the House Financial Services Committee broke into laughter before the committee's top Democrat began questioning a member of President Donald Trump's Cabinet.
The conservative Washington Times reported that committee ranking member Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) was about to begin her questioning of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent before he brought up their awkward first encounter.
"This is the first time we've met, is that correct?" Waters asked Bessent.

"No, ma'am. We actually met one New Year's Eve in the Bahamas," Bessent replied.
"Why don't I remember that?" Waters asked.
"You were much better at the electric slide than I was," the Treasury secretary responded.
This prompted audible laughter from the room, with Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) leaning over to Waters and saying, "he didn't make an impression." Liberal pundit Art Candee tweeted that Velázquez's remark "cracked me up." The exchange also prompted responses from other journalists and commentators.

"A reward for watching congressional hearings is that sometimes you get brief moments of levity," tweeted CNBC correspondent Megan Cassella.
"Nothing bridges the political divide more than the electric slide," said Hill staffer Sarah Gallagher.
"Electric slide is the one dance that unites the people," ABC reporter Beatrice Peterson posted.
"I need to know what Bahamian [New Years' Eve] party was hosting both Maxine Waters and Scott Bessent doing the electric slide," tweeted C-SPAN political editor Nate Hurst.
