'You always knew it was true': Candace Owens discusses UFO conspiracy theories' power
15 February 2023
Right-wing commentator Candace Owens shared her affinity for conspiracy theories and demonstrated why they are difficult to overcome on Tuesday's edition of her Daily Wire podcast.
First, Owens argued that conspiracy theories encourage critical and independent thinking:
So let me tell you why I like conspiracy theories. I like conspiracy theories because I view them as mind yoga. It's very important to bend your mind like a pretzel sometimes to make sure that you actually have a mind. You know what I'm saying? I actually do believe that if you don't use it, you lose it, and this is the circumstance of why so many people that spend years and years and years in college and they have so many degrees can't see what's right in front of them because they're not actually challenged to critically think. They are just taught to remember what's on a piece of paper and to spit back out exactly what the professors at the universities have told them to remember. In essence, it's just brainwash, right? In order to make sure that you don't become a victim of brainwash, you have to challenge yourself to think a different way. So the smartest people with the PhDs – the doctors, the pediatricians, the professors – they just could not figure it out when it came to COVID because it required a little bit of common sense, really. And it turns out that common sense is not that common.
Next, Owens invoked the godfather of all connivences: alleged government coverups of the existence of technologically superior extraterrestrials who monitor life on Earth, and what interactions humanity's netherworld of unelected cosmic ambassadors have with interstellar or interdimensional civilizations:
So recently, we have been told by the government that there are a lot of unidentified flying objects, UFOs – and by the way, yeah, there, it sems that this is in the press recently and it's been dominant – there's been a very slow and intetional leak of this sorts of information, I would say over the last two to three years, if you'e been paying attention, suddently the mainstream media is talking about UFOs a lot more. Suddenly, our government is interested in declassifying a bunch of information, telling us that pilots have been seeing UFOs for decades. They're just now interested – the government is just now interested, over the last two to three years, in presenting that information to the public. And so my question is, why? It doesn't follow their usual habits when it comes to UFOs.

Owens then opined on why unsolicited peppering of evidence favoring the scheme often supercharges believers' suspicions:
In fact, it was our government that came up with the concept of a tin-foil hat, right? When people began talking about aliens in the Sixties, they started saying that they saw aliens, or started talking about crop circles. The government's basically said, 'these people are crazy. These are tin-foil-hat-heads. They have done everythinjg they can to obscure that information forever, right? Why Roswell? These are things that we're not allowed to know. So why suddenly in the Two-Thousand-and-Twenties is our government suddently interested in saying us, 'no, actually, UFOs, those are real. You're not crazy anymore. Those things are real.' I don't trust that. I think that that's really weird and it seems like they now want us to believe that aliens are real. The exact opposite of their intentions, just a decade ago, and before it.
You know, when it comes to conspiracy theories, I always say this – I say that I find the people that don't believe in any conspiracy theories to be out of their minds. They're out of their minds. They're absolutely crazy. How much more information – how much more information can be unveiled to you? Things that you were told yesterday were conspiracy theories that are suddenly true today before you suddenly just are able to recognize that your government lies to you over and over and over again. I mean, I can count the times that they've been caught lying in the last two years. It's insane, calling us all conspiracy theorists and going, 'oh, never mind, we just didn't have the right information at the time.'
The segment concluded with a swipe at the gatekeepers:
Liars. You always had the information. You always knew it was true. You lie to the public full time and you lie for one thing and one thing only, for power. The government wants power. So what fool still believes that all conspiracy theories are false?
