Trump’s 'desperate' endorsement in Texas is about to blow up in his face

Trial lawyer Shant A. Karnikian filmed a commentary video for the "Legal AF: Civil Action" podcast where he warned that one of President Donald Trump's candidates isn't going to end well for the Republican Party.

Brandon Herrera is described by the podcast as "the gun-influencer known online as 'The AK Guy,' who's now the Republican nominee for Texas's 23rd Congressional District with Donald Trump's full endorsement."

Herrera has a "self-documented history of promoting Nazi imagery, owning a personal copy of Mein Kampf, and joking about the Holocaust, goose-stepping and marching songs," the lawyers explained.

Previously, Republicans were against Herrera because of his extremist views. In fact, at one point, Trump's lawyers sent Herrera a cease-and-desist demand to stop using Trump's image on his campaign mailers.

But now he's about to join the U.S. House of Representatives from a conservative district where he can spend the next two years being part of the GOP caucus.

Karnikian said that what has changed is that Trump now supports Herrera in the absence of any other Republican to support.

Lawyer Brian Kabateck recalled some of the more obscure factoids about Herrera, such as his jokes about veteran suicides and chatting about his own fantasies of shooting himself so he can be called an "honorary veteran."

"Trump's referred to him as an 'America First Patriot, MAGA Warrior' in Texas. So, this is a fine, fine man for the Trump administration to be supporting," Kabateck said. "I mean, this just shows you how desperate the Republicans are."

The hosts also pointed to about $2.7 million being funneled to Herrera "through an entity called Texas Strategy Group. So this guy is getting a ton of money. I mean, he's getting a lot of money from pro-Republican, pro-MAGA organizations."

"Isn't that ironic? Just no morals, no moral compass, flip-flopping anytime it's convenient for him," agreed Karnikian. "Trump himself demanded that this guy stop using Trump's endorsement because Trump had never endorsed him previously. But now that they're out of a candidate over there, Trump has to endorse him, and everybody needs to fall in line. I mean, what an absurd world the Republicans live in, where they have to support some guy like this."

Kabateck mentioned that he has a Democratic opponent, Katy Padilla Stout, whom the men said was running a "traditional Democratic campaign" on issues like child welfare and education. There aren't a lot of polls being done for the district, but the ones that have been done show that the candidates are "neck-and-neck."
