To say Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's legal team is unsatisfied with the sharply limited FBI investigation into her accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh would be a profound understatement. In a letter to FBI director Christopher Wray, they list off numerous key witnesses that were not contacted by the FBI despite their clear relevance to the case, including those she previously told of the assault.
As you are aware, the Federal Bureau of Investigation failed to interview our client, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, in connection with its Supplemental Background Investigation of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh. It also declined to interview witnesses whose names we provided to the FBI as possessing information highly relevant to Dr. Ford's allegations. We write to provide you with the names of several of the witnesses we requested that the FBI interview in connection with this matter. None were contacted nor, to our knowledge, were more than a dozen other names we provided to the FBI whose interviews would have challenged the credibility of Judge Kavanaugh's testimony before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary on September 27, 2018. They remain available to talk with law enforcement.
Senate Republicans and the White House are each denying blame for limiting the FBI's investigation of Ford's claims so severely that not even Blasey Ford herself would be interviewed. Given that each group is categorically dishonest, that is unsurprising.
But these witnesses are not going away, and the allegations against Kavanaugh aren't going away. Numerous of his own classmates have now come forward to say that his Senate testimony was dishonest. Press investigations will be continuing, and without any of the constraints that Republicans put on the government investigation. There is ample evidence to demonstrate Kavanaugh was dishonest in his attempts to discredit Blasey Ford's allegations, and there will be more.
If Republicans elevate Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, those revelations will cut to the core of the credibility of a Supreme Court justice, and to the court itself. And the public will demand an accounting.
