'Repugnant and offensive': Anti-vax protesters display Nazi symbols outside Jewish lawmaker's office

Protesters who attended a demonstration outside of a Jewish lawyer's office were seen with displays of Nazi symbols, multiple witnesses reported. According to The Jerusalem Post, photos from the protest have also surfaced.

"One photo shows a protester holding a sign with a swastika symbol with the words "Crimes Against Humanity" written next to it," Jerusalem post reported. "Another wore a yellow Star of David on his jacket to protest the fact that he is not vaccinated."

The protest, which was organized by organized by former New York governor candidate Rob Astorin, was a push back against the proposed bill that would require students in the state to be vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to attend class. Dinowitz sponsored the bill so protesters confronted him about the proposed piece of legislation.

Following the incident, attorney Jeffrey Dinowitz took to Twitter to share his reaction to the offensive displays.

"The display of swastikas and yellow Stars of David outside my office today is repugnant and offensive," Dinowitz tweeted. "People are perfectly free to express their opinion on vaccines or any issue, but to openly display Nazi symbols outside the office of a Jewish legislator is despicable."

Dinowitz also spoke with News 12 where he further discussed the protest. Despite the opposition he's faced for supporting the bill, Dinowitz stood by his decision as he argued why it is essential. Comparing the COVID vaccination to previous vaccine requirements, he "noted that vaccinations to attend school are nothing new, as 'the fact that children have to get the vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella, etc. -- that's a mandate.'"

In wake of the incident, the Anti-Defamation League released a statement condemning the Nazi symbolization saying, "We are appalled by the use of swastikas and yellow stars at a protest against vaccine requirements in New York, outside the offices of a Jewish legislator. We continue to condemn these inaccurate and abhorrent comparisons that trivialize the Holocaust."
