A subtle whiff of reform

It's in the air. Now let's make a stink!
I recently wrote that if the grass-roots didn't get it together and give a push on corruption, we'd get worthless wallpaper in the guise of reform.

We haven't - to the degree we must - so that's precisely what we're getting. Both parties are tripping over themselves to prove that they're the fox that can build a better henhouse.

In the House, Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-ILL) is working with the House Government Reform Committee led by David Dreier (R-CA) to develop a proposal that will, ostensibly, ban gifts, curtail junkets and double the amount of time a legislator needs to be out of his or her office before accepting a lobbying gig.
