Naomi Klein and Joshua Holland Talk the Keystone Pipeline—Take Action Today

The Senate is set to vote tomorrow on the future of the Keystone tar sands pipeline, and a number of Big Oil-beholden Senators are threatening to greenlight it in reaction to President Obama's veto last month. Activists are pushing to send 500,000 messages to Washington by tomorrow morning to show how unpopular the destructive project is with constituents. From

It’s not hard to see why the Keystone XL pipeline has united millions of Americans inside and outside the environmental movement. The pipe is the perfect example of everything that’s wrong with Washington. Members of Congress supporting the pipeline scam have received tens of millions from the fossil fuel industry. Their now peddling the pipe as a jobs plan, despite the fact that Keystone XL would create at most a few thousand temporary jobs and -- more importantly -- that oil-soaked Senator’s are holding back the hundreds of thousands of jobs that would be created by investing a clean energy economy.

What the pipeline would do is have a devastating effect on the environment and the climate. Keystone XL is a fuse to the largest carbon bomb in North America, the Canadian tar sands. Tar sands fuel is some of the dirtiest on the planet and our top climate scientist, NASA’s Dr. James Hansen, has said that fully exploiting the tar sands would mean “game over” for the climate.

To donate and take action, head to Tar Sands Action. Below, listen to AlterNet's Joshua Holland and Naomi Klein discuss the implications:
