Tea Party Founder Arrested for Packing Heat on an Airplane

Mark J. Meckler, a founder of the Tea Party, was arrested Thursday morning at La Guardia Airport in New York after he tried to board a flight with a semi-automatic handgun and 19 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition. He was charged with second degree possession of a concealed weapon.

From the New York Times:

Mr. Meckler “told authorities that he had the pistol because he gets threats,” according to the office. The gun, a Glock Model 27, was legally registered to Mr. Meckler, who has a permit to carry it in California.

“Unfortunately for Mr. Meckler, he thought he was good to go because he has a carry permit in California, but that does not cover New York. Folks who want to carry a firearm on a flight have to do their homework.”

The gun was not loaded, but “it just as well may have been, as the ammo was right there, accessible,” Mr. Della Fave said.

As  founder of such an anti-gun-control,  anti-'terrorism' group, you'd think Meckler would know better than to carry a gun on a plane.
