Amid Teen Sex Scandal, Rep. Wu Announces Plans To Resign After Debt Negotiations
Representative David Wu (D-OR) announced today he will resign from office, following the resolution of the debt-ceiling crisis.
Reports surfaced yesterday that the eighteen-year-old daughter of one of Wu's political donors left a distraught message on his office voice mail, accusing Wu of an unwanted sexual advance.
The incident is said to have occurred last Fall, around the same time Wu engaged in a string of bizarre behavior, including sending a picture of himself in a full-body tiger suit (it was Halloween) to staff, as well as angry outbursts. After obtaining E-mails and photos from Wu's Blackberry, The Willamette Week reported extensively on Wu's bizarre behavior , which they said became so troublesome co-workers attempted "interventions" urging Wu to seek psychiatric treatment.
Nancy Pelosi has called for an ethics investigation into Wu's behavior, as she did during the Anthony Weiner scandal.
Wu was elected in 1998 as the first Chinese-American in the House.
