GOP Still Focused on Abortion, Abortion, Abortion Instead of Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

Jobs, jobs, jobs is just so 2010.

Via The Hill:

Six Senate Republicans on Monday introduced legislation that would hit doctors with heavy fines and imprisonment if they fail to inform parents when their minor daughters seek an abortion.

The genius behind this latest attack on women's health is Sen. John Boozman. That would be the same Sen. John Boozman who recently received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Spirit of Enterprise" award for being oh so focused on jobs, jobs, jobs. And he certainly thinks jobs, jobs, jobs are the most important thing ever. Or at least he did:

“Everyone in Washington needs to be focused on job creation. Our mantra has to be ‘jobs, jobs, jobs.’ There are millions of hardworking Americans that want to be back at work. While the government doesn’t create jobs, we do have a responsibility as legislators to create an environment that fosters economic growth so the private sector can create jobs. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce plays a vital role in that process and I am grateful for its support,” Boozman said upon receiving the award.

Boozman's bill doesn't do a thing to create jobs. It does create a four-day waiting period for minors seeking abortions—longer than any waiting period under existing law anywhere in the country. But that's to give parents enough time to drag their daughters to court, even though the majority of minors who undergo abortions tell at least one parent.

And it does impose a fine of up to $1,000,000 and a prison sentence of up to 10 years for any doctors who violate the law. Because government should not get between you and your doctor—unless you have a uterus and your doctor is performing a legal medical procedure that Sen. Boozman doesn't like.
