Sick: Homeless CT Woman Prosecuted for Sending Child to School

Yet another desperate mother trying to get her child a decent education has been viciously turned on by the system designed to help her.

A homeless woman in Connecticut who had a shifting address, including at shelters, at friends' and elsewhere, used the child's regular babysitters address-where he returned from school each day--to register him for a Norwalk school. For this, she is being charged with "theft."

From the Stamford Advocate: "A homeless woman from Bridgeport who enrolled her 6-year-old son at a Norwalk elementary school has become the first in the city to be charged with stealing more than $15,000 for the cost of her child's education."

While attorneys in the state wonder why the authorities would choose to make an example of someone in such a vulnerable position, the baby-sitter has now been evicted herself.
