Walker Crony Calls WI's First Woman Supreme Court Justice a 'Bitch'

Wisconsin Justice David Prosser called Chief Justice Shirley Abrahmson -- the first woman to sit on that state's Supreme Court -- a 'bitch' last year, following a debate over whether to force one member off criminal cases, the JS Online reports. He also threatened to 'destroy' her.

Prosser acknowledged the incident recently and said he thought it was becoming public now in an attempt to hurt him politically. Prosser faces Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg in the April 5 election.

He said the outburst came after Abrahamson took steps to undermine him politically and to embarrass him and other court conservatives.

"In the context of this, I said, 'You are a total bitch,' " Prosser said.

"I probably overreacted, but I think it was entirely warranted. . . . They (Abrahamson and Justice Ann Walsh Bradley) are masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements. This is bullying and abuse of very, very long standing."

While it is clear the Justices were having problems reaching civil conclusions -- Prosser at one point suggested bringing in a moderator -- his profanity was a despicable epithet that had no place in the Supreme Court of Law. Further, Prosser's gestural apologia merely furthers his gender problem; he's essentially blaming 'them' -- Abrahmson and Bradley -- for his outburst, playing the victim and attempting to excuse his behavior as a mere reaction to two big, bad, evil women. His chauvinism is so textbook it's ridiculous, and -- 'in the context of this' -- appalling, considering we demand a higher level of dignity from our Supreme Court Justices.

As ThinkProgress points out, Prosser's campaign 'recently promised that he would “protect[] the conservative judicial majority and act[] as a common sensecomplement” to Gov. Walker if he is reelected.' If his brand of 'common sense' is the same that Walker used when signing his union-busting bill against the will of the people, well, his outburst is no surprise.
