Vision: Craigslist Creator Starts New Site for Progressive Non-Profits and Other Good Organizations

Craigslist creator Craig Newmark has already proven he's good at linking people, places and furniture (I owe him an indirect shout out for my couch). But now he's taking his superior connectivity skills to a bigger, even more altruistic level with his new venture, Craigconnects, which will 'connect the world for a common good.'

He details the new venture on his HuffPo blogthusly:

  • Craigconnects is about calling attention to and connecting good, effective nonprofits and other organizations that get the job done.

Craigconnects is also about protecting organizations, and the public, from fake organizations that have a good story, but actually end up hurting the people they profess to serve.

Newmark has been linking these types of organizations for a decade, he says, but now he's getting organized about it, and like Craigslist, this is a community effort:

I’d appreciate it if you could help out – here’s a way to start.  Take a look at our Featured Nonprofit below or any of the other organizations I endorse and consider helping them.  If you have others to suggest, contact me.

This site’s “Connect with Craig” page is definitely the best way to reach me these days. But first, please know that this site exists primarily to help me connect and protect worthwhile organizations and efforts in certain specific areas I want to support. craigconnects isn’t a fundraising or grant-making organization.

Watch his welcome message here (wherein we learn he has a really nice, soothing voice) and go Facebook-Like Craigconnects on its homepage.
