More Racism From Rush Limbaugh: Says Clyburn Could Be “Driving Miss Nancy”

As we've come to learn throughout his too-long tenure, Rush Limbaugh's got a proclivity for piggish race-baiting. This time, he's trying to accuse Dems of racism in the battle for minority whip––and, unsurprisingly, being racist himself while doing so.

Two nights ago, Tavis Smiley and the Washington Post's Paul Kane very rationally discussed the delicate power balance among House Dems––split between Nancy Pelosi, Jim Clyburn and Steny Hoyer––and its potential to split voters among racial lines.

Tavis: It's amazing, and I'm being somewhat tongue-in-cheek a little - amazing what happens when Black and Brown people, after years of not having any power, start to demand some respect. All hell seems to break loose in the leadership in the House, but I digress on that point.

Let me ask you right quick, in about 30 seconds here, let me ask you - it would appear at the moment, while there's some rumblings, that Republicans don't have anywhere near, interestingly, the cantankerous politics being played on their leadership positions as Democrats do. Fair statement?

Kane: Absolutely. It's amazing. Republicans - this leadership team that the Republicans have have really had probably more personal palace intrigue than the Democrats, but they just - as winners, you end up with so many more prizes.

Ever the opportunist, Limbaugh leaped on the conversation as an excuse to demean Clyburn, under the guise of ranting against Pelosi. Taking Smiley's comment out of context, Limbaugh condescendingly offered Clyburn the job of “driving Miss Nancy,” while simultaneously painting him as some kind of greedy dandy, more concerned with losing his high-class perks than, you know, actually governing:

"We've got the Democrats worried that Clyburn's getting the shaft because he's not going to have a car, he's not going to have a driver, he's not going to have security, he's not going to have any of the stroke, or the perks," Limbaugh said. "A white, racist leadership of the Democrat party trying to ace out Clyburn."

Clyburn's worried about not having the car. Clyburn's worried about not having the perk of a big office, driver and so forth,” he continued. 'The way this can all be worked out, Clyburn's new position: 'Driving Miss Nancy.'

No doubt Limbaugh would love to see that happen. Read the full transcript of the Tavis Smiley show in question here, and more on Limbaugh's statements here.
