MSNBC host Rachel Maddow used a lengthy segment to highlight reporting from McClatchy News that notes a possible connection between President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and shady Russian political ads placed on Facebook.

“There appears to have been significant cooperation between Russia’s online propaganda machine and individuals in the United States who were knowledgeable about where to target the disinformation,” Maddow read from the report.

The article says that “investigators at the House and Senate Intelligence committees and the Justice Department are examining whether the Trump campaign’s digital operation, overseen by Jared Kushner, helped guide Russia’s sophisticated voter targeting and fake news attacks on Hillary Clinton in 2016.”

Maddow explains that such a connection would be a clear violation of the law.

“You can’t spend foreign money to influence U.S. elections, even just on Facebook ads.”
