Jon Stewart lamented the fact that we only pay attention to impoverished black communities when their desperation ignites into flames on Wednesday night's show.

He also expressed real concern about Wolf Blitzer's complete cluelessness about the fact that sometimes, and almost predictably, people riot out frustration and anger after years of impoverishment, disenfranchisement and brutality by a police force charged with "keeping these citizens out of everyone's view."

Blitzer was completely shocked. "This kind of violence in this day and age is hard to believe," he stuttered.

"I'm worried about you," Stewart said.

After laying out the case that the plight of Baltimore's African-American residents should have been the subject of concern a long time ago, Stewart suggested a different kind of "Emergency Alert System," one that has more levels than just "Normal" and "On Fire."

It's vintage Stewart, a combination of funny and serious.
