Michael Avenatti phoned in to MSNBC Wednesday and slammed the contradictions in President Donald Trump's statements about a hush money payment to the porn star who says she had an affair with him back in 2006.

Avenatti represents Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, in her lawsuit against the president and his attorney Michael Cohen to break a non-disclosure agreement she signed in October 2016 in exchange for $130,000. Trump and Cohen initially denied that the president had any involvement in or knowledge of the payment, but it has since been revealed that Trump did reimburse Cohen for the payment.

On Tuesday, Trump filed a financial disclosure form that admitted to such a payment to Cohen in 2017. The fact that Trump previously did not disclose the payments, as the Office of Government Ethics says he was required to, raises serious legal questions for the president.

"Either Mr. Trump was lying then or is lying now," Avenatti said. "You can't reconcile this disclosure with what he previously stated to the American people on Air Force One. You can't reconcile it with what Michael Cohen previously told the American people earlier this year. You can't reconcile it with what Michael Cohen's attorney Mr. Schwartz repeatedly told the American people on your network and other networks earlier this year."

He continued: "It brings up that old adage, and I keep using it: 'Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive.' I think it's remarkable now that the president has come forward and is now admitting that he paid these monies when he denied it on videotape to the American people in early April."
