President Donald Trump was brimming with praise for the North Korea's totalitarian dictator Kim Jong-un, and the Republican Party is having trouble stomaching this drastic shift toward the country.

Trump said Kim is “very talented” and “very smart and a good negotiator,” along with calling Kim's human rights abusing regime "tough."

"My meeting with Chairman Kim was honest, direct and productive,” the president said, calling the summit a "tremendous 24 hours."

In an example of the discomfort Trump's own party feels about the summit, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) was visibly awkward during an exchange with CNN senior congressional correspondent Manu Raju.

In a CNN video, Cornyn is asked about whether Kim is "very talented" as Trump claims.

"I have no earthly idea," Cornyn responds with a forced smile before walking away from the outstretched microphone.
