A Republican venture capitalist has a plan for California: split it up.  Tim Draper wants California to be divvied up into six different states.  He has poured $750,000into drumming up support for it.

The Silicon Valley investor’s plan would have California become these six different areas: Jefferson (in the north), North California, Central California, Silicon Valley, West California and South California.  The reason, according to Draper, is that the state has become ungovernable.

Draper envisions a system that would proportionally split California’s debt; end current tax and spending by California; and create regional governments that are more representative of the population.

Draper is looking to get the proposal on the ballot--he hasn’t decided whether for this year or 2016--though final approval for the bill would fall to Congress. He has to collect 807,615 signatures for it to get on the ballot.

Other proposals to split up the big state have been floated in the past, though they have all failed.
