When President Donald Trump hired former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani to represent him in the Russia investigation, he may not have realized all the baggage the attorney would bring along with him.

The latest headache Giuliani is causing for the White House surrounds an obscure House race in Louisiana. As Politico reported, Giuliani is backing Josh Guillory, a Republican challenger to the incumbent GOP Rep. Clay Higgins in the states 3rd district.

The reason? Many insiders believe, Politico reports, that Giuliani's romantic relationship with fundraiser Jennifer LeBlanc, employed by the Guillory campaign, has driven his support. Giuliani has confirmed his relationship with LeBlanc to the New York Daily News.

Trump himself hasn't thrown his weight behind the challenger. Political parties tend to support their incumbents whenever possible.

Though both Republican candidates say they support the president, Giuliani's taking a side in the race may signal to many voters that Guillory has Trump's implicit support.

It's not the first time Giuliani has weighed into a political matter well outside his official jurisdiction as the president's attorney for the Russia matter. He's discussed the separate issue of the Stormy Daniels case, First Lady Melania Trump's relationship with the president, Trump's negotiations with North Korea, and the administration's Iran policy.
