Obama Calls Out Fox News: ‘You and Your TV Station’ Keep Scandals Alive

In a Pre-Superbowl interview, the President clashes with Bill O'Reilly's IRS Scandal spin.

Before kickoff of NFL Super Bowl XLVIII, President Obama sat down with Bill O’Reilly. The longtime Fox News host and conservative firebrand focused on his network’s favorite anti-Obama topics, including the botched roll-out of Obamacare’s website, the attack at the consulate in Benghazi, and the questionable IRS investigation of some Republican-leaning organizations. And while Obama was for the most part cordial in the charged but measured interview, he pushed back for one moment against O’Reilly when asked about the Cincinatti IRS’s improper investigation of some conservative groups:

O’REILLY: So you don’t recall seeing Schulman, because what some people are saying is that the IRS was used at a local level in Cincinnati, maybe other places –

OBAMA: Absolutely wrong.

O’REILLY: How do you know that, because we still don’t know what happened?

OBAMA: No, we do — that’s not what happened. Folks have again had multiple hearings on this. These kinds of things keep on surfacing in part because you and your TV station will promote them. But –

While Fox News has focused on how one local IRS branch improperly investigated some conservative groups for months since the story broke, the network has failed to dedicate as much coverage to the similar investigation of progressive groups. Instead, it has used the improper investigations to argue that the government has questionable credibility and therefore lacks the credibility to properly administer the Affordable Care Act.
