On Monday's episode of ABC's The View, co-host Meghan McCain questioned her colleague Ana Navarro, a fellow conservative, about her party affiliation.

The optics of McCain telling a Latina that her personal views on the immigration debate aren't welcome in the Republican Party did not go over well with the studio audience.

“I understand that DACA is a very emotional issue,” McCain said. “But most Republicans are on my side on this one, Ana. And it’s really difficult for me to understand sometimes. Why do you consider yourself a Republican?”

Navarro immediately launched into a defense of DACA recipients by recounting her own story as an immigrant.

“I’m an immigrant Latina,” Navarro replied. “Because my parents fled communism, and it was not my decision to come here. I came here through no fault of my own. Had my parents not had the resources to hire lawyers, I would be a Dream Act kid, too. That's why this is personal.”

The audience applauded as she spoke.
