Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) faced criticism for sitting alongside President Donald Trump as the president praised embattled Alabama Republican candidate Roy Moore, who is accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, one when she was 14 years old decades ago.

Flake responded to criticism that he was used as a political prop by Trump in the clearest way possible. He wrote a personal check to Roy Moore's Democratic opponent Doug Jones and posted a photo of it on his official Twitter account.

The Republican senator wrote "Country over Party" on the $100 personal check to the Democratic candidate.

"I do think the President is wrong here. I think it will have negative impacts for the party in the long term," Flake said of Trump's support for Moore.

Flake has said he will not be seeking reelection next year.
