Former CIA director John Brennan suggested that President Donald Trump's insistence on meeting one-on-one with Russian President Vladimir Putin may indicate that Trump is "hiding" something from his own national security team.

"What might he be hiding from Bolton, Pompeo, Kelly, & the American public?" Brennan wrote in a tweet. "How will Putin use whatever Trump could be hiding to advantage Russia & hurt America?"

Brennan also blasted Trump for his "total lack of credibility."

His comments come in the wake of a New York Times op-ed calling the U.S. president "treasonous."
