Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) got more than he bargained for during a Friday MSNBC interview with Chris Hayes to discuss health care.

The congressman dishonestly tried to claim that severe recent premium spikes are part of a pattern that's been occuring for years. In truth, the blame lies with President Donald Trump.

Hayes laid into the congressman.

“Yesterday the premiums were one thing and today they are 15 or 20 percent higher," he said. "So you have to explain to those people getting the bills in the mail why you guys in Congress, the Republican Party which controls all three branches of government, can’t solve the problem without making them pay more money out of pocket.”

Reed tried to claim it was a bipartisan problem and that his caucus was "leading" on the issue.

Hayes shot back, "But you aren't leading!"
