'I do defend Snowden just as MSNBC defends Obama 24 hours a day.'

Things got testy last night when Glenn Greenwald appeared on MSNBC and was questioned by host Kristen Welker about whether he is more a spokesman for Edward Snowden than a journalist.

"I think that's ludicrous," Greenwald responded. "We're on MSNBC where, close to 24 hours a day, the agenda of President Obama is promoted, defended and glorfied and the Republicans are vilified. That doesn't mean the people here are not journalists."

When Welker tried to get Greenwald off the topic of MSNBC, he again pointed out that every journalist has an agenda, and it is essential to be honest about that. "I absolutely defend what Edward Snowden did and I don't pretend otherwise," he said.

The real test of journalism, he said, is whether what you are saying is truthful and accurate.
