WATCH: The Tenth GOP Debate Was a Total Disaster

How can the Grand Old Party catch up to present day if they're not even discussing the present day?

Last night, five GOP candidates debated war, immigration, abortion and religious liberties. There was no mention of the Kansas shooting that occurred earlier that night, just like there was no mention of the water issues in Flint, Michigan in prior debates. The only question that applied to any specific events was about the proposed ceasefire in Syria.
What does Donald Trump's slogan, "Make America Great Again" mean? What does Marco Rubio's "A New American Century" refer to? We can't move forward with candidates — of either party — who can't relate to the average American. And the fact that major networks devote so much airtime to them further emphasizes that. 
Same-sex marriage was decided last year and no one is taking away traditional marriage, so why are we discussing it? Even John Kasich knew something was up. "Let's not get so narrow here with the gotcha questions," said the Ohio governor.
