It was almost inevitable; Trump had won South Carolina, Nevada and Iowa, and America was becoming increasingly concerned not only that Trump would be the Republican nominee, but that he would go on to win the White House. So following Trump’s Super Tuesday wins, variations of the search, "how can I move to Canada," began trending on Google.

The number of people seeking escape from a potential Trump presidency was so great, for a time the official government website of Canada appeared to experience overload, reported Simon Rogers, a data editor for Google. At one time, Rogers tweeted that searches had risen 350%, but as time went on, the surge in interest hit a high of 1150%.
