On "Last Week Tonight," John Oliver took on the disgraceful Syrian refugee hysteria, pointing out that there is, in fact, one precedent for refugees committing mass slaughter—and we celebrate it every Thanksgiving.
Oliver then played clips of Republican lawmakers -- like Tennessee's premier foreign policy expert Rep. Marsha Blackburn -- essentially lying about the refugee resettlement process. "Do we know who these people are? No! Are they properly vetted? No!" Blackburn ranted from the House floor.
Actually we have a pretty good idea of who they are, given the rigorous vetting Syrian refugees undergo. Oliver went on to describe the refugee screening process, which can take up to two years. "No terrorist in their right mind would choose this path when the visa process requires far less effort," he points out.
But Mike Huckabee thinks the risk is too great, because of ... peanuts?
