Watch: Dramatic footage shows London bystanders tackle suspect in stabbing terror attack before police shoot him
29 November 2019
The London Metropolitan Police Department is treating a stabbing incident in the London Bridge area as a terrorist incident, the Wall Street Journal is reporting. Police say 5 people were stabbed and 2 killed in the attack.
The incident occurred on Friday, when a man attacked and stabbed several people. Some bystanders tackled the man to the ground — and when police arrived, the assailant was fatally shot.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan, according to WSJ, said that London police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson cut some short campaign appearances short because of the attack. A general election will be held in the U.K. on December 12, and Johnson (a Tory or member of the Conservative Party) is among the candidates.
WSJ reports that Enrique Murio, a student, was working in a café near London Bridge when the stabbing incident occurred. The 18-year-old Murio is quoted as saying that when a woman who had witnessed the stabbing ran into the cafe, “she was hysterical. There was a rush of people, and I heard tons of screaming. We all ran to the back of the coffee shop, and the owner unlocked.... the back door to go down to the basement.”
London police have not identified a motive for the attack.
