Watch: Trump co-defendant arrives at Miami courthouse for federal arraignment in DOJ documents case
06 July 2023
Although former President Donald Trump was arraigned on a 37-count federal criminal indictment in June, his co-defendant in the case, aide Walt Nauta, wasn't scheduled for arraignment until Thursday morning, July 6. And that morning, Nauta, as expected, showed up at a federal courthouse in Miami.
The Messenger's Marc Caputo tweeted video of Nauta arriving at the courthouse with his main attorney, Stanley Woodward. A group of reporters can be seen in the video awaiting their arrival, and one of them asked, "Mr. Nauta, how are you doing today?" But Nauta, wearing dark glasses, didn't say anything.
Special counsel Jack Smith, in his indictment, alleges that Trump endangered the United States' national security by storing top-secret government documents at Mar-a-Lago. The indictment includes allegations of obstruction of justice, and 31 of the 37 counts are for alleged violations of the Espionage Act of 1917. Trump has pleaded "not guilty," maintaining that all of the documents at Mar-a-Lago had been "declassified" before he left office.
