'Void': Judge approves Michigan GOP leader removal

A Kent County, Michigan judge on Tuesday officially confirmed the ouster of Michigan GOP Party Chair Kristina Karamo following weeks of infighting over the party's finances, Politico reports.

Karamo has spent days publicly opposing the MIGOP's decision to remove her last month, but according to the report, Judge Joseph Rossi deemed the vote "valid," saying, "Any actions of Ms. Karamo since Jan. 6, 2024, purporting to be taken on behalf of the Michigan Republican state committee are void and have no effect."

The judge's ruling comes even after the Republican National Committee recognized ex-Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) as the new chair of the state party, while election denier Karamo declared, "I'm still legally the chair."

Detroit News reported last week that Karamo was "still swiping the Mitten State GOP's credit card despite disgruntled Republicans' 40-5 vote on January 6 of this year to remove her from her position."

Ex-President Donald Trump also recognized Hoekstra — who's been conducting MIGOP's meetings — as the party leader over Karamo.

Politico reports, "Nearly 89 percent of those present on Jan. 6 voted to oust Karamo, according to Bree Moeggenberg, a party member in attendance. Roughly 110 precinct delegates had the power to remove the chair but only 45 people, not including proxies, had attended the meeting."
