The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Shuts Down Meghan McCain for Claiming Hillary Clinton Was 'Complicit' in Bill's Affair

The hosts of “The View” on Wednesday took on Bill Clinton’s recent “tone-deaf” response to a question about the “Me Too” movement, prompting Meghan McCain to blame Hillary Clinton for her husband’s personal indiscretions.

Clinton on Tuesday night tried to “do over” his combative response to a question about whether he owes former White House intern Monica Lewinsky an apology for how he treated her after their affair, telling Stephen Colbert the interview “wasn’t [his] finest hour.”

Sara Haines wondered if his “clear anger and frustration” was the product of him feeling “inconvenienced” by the question.

“He’s been dealing with it pretty much everyday,” Whoopi Goldberg said, adding he’s also “watched his wife deal with it”

“Why does he always get a pass?” McCain demanded. “You should expect this question!”

McCain also wondered why Clinton discussed the toll the Ken Starr investigation took on him personally. “Like I’m supposed to feel sorry for you when you leave the White House?” McCain asked.

Joy Behar agreed Clinton’s response was “very Trumpian.” She then suggested Trump and Clinton have more in common than it seems.

“I remember when the Lewinsky scandal occurred,” Behar said. “And when we heard what had gone down in the—pardon the expression—in the Oval Office, whhen we heard about what happened there, it was the most shocking thing we had ever heard.”

“I believe that set the bar very low,” Behar suggested, arguing “Clinton bears a tremendous responsibility” for how Trump became an acceptable leader.

McCain asked how that is different from a Trump voter supporting the president despite bragging on tape about grabbing women “by the p*ssy.”

“Bill Clinton was on the right side in many ways,” Behar said, pointing to Trump’s attacks on the handicapped and his denigration of McCain’s father, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Behar explained “It’s not really only [Trump’s] language” that’s problematic.

“Everybody’s missing the point, you know who really is getting her behind kicked in this?” Goldberg asked.

“Monica Lewinsky!” Sunny Hostin offered.

“No!” Goldberg replied. “Hillary Clinton Whatever you think of her, she has been dragged through the dirt.”

“She was complicit!” McCain claimed.

“You don’t know that!” Goldberg shot back. “You weren't in their bedroom!”

McCain tried to argue she knows what’s in George Stephanopoulos’ book but Goldberg cut her off.

“I don’t know what people say in their books, what I know is if they were complicit, that’s their marriage and that’s what they do,” Goldberg said, insisting Clinton “is the woman who goes through it every day, every day from both sides.”

“That’s the woman I feel the worst for,” Goldberg said.

McCain asserted that “millennial women” like Lena Dunham (who, it should be noted, is not a spokeswoman for millennial woman) also have a “serious problem” with how Hillary Clinton handled her husband’s affair.

“That’s fine, but that doesn’t change the fact that the person who gets dragged up every time is her,” Goldberg said.

“Why is Hillary Clinton complicit?” Hostin asked, as McCain insisted she just explained why.

“Do you know who I feel worse for?” McCain asked. “I feel bad for Monica Lewinsky who can’t get the job she wants, she’s not married, she’s 44, ever she’s known as the woman who went down in the White House if you will.”

Something tells me Lewinsky doesn’t need McCain’s pity.
