Early Friday morning, President Donald Trump made a bombshell announcement on Fox News' "Fox & Friends": a suspect in the murder of MAGA activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was arrested and is now "in custody."
The suspect, according to law enforcement officials, is 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah resident.
During his "Fox & Friends" appearance, Trump claimed that all of the political violence plaguing the United States is coming from the left — ignoring the violence that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and other Democrats have suffered at the hands of far-right extremists.

Trump told the "Fox & Friends" hosts, "Radicals on the left are the problem and they are vicious and horrible and politically savvy. They want men in women's sports, they want transgender for everyone, open borders. Worst thing that happened to this country."
On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Ken Dilanian stressed that the shooting was far from amateurish and had the hallmarks of a professional assassination.
"The rifle and the shot looms large here," Dilanian told "Morning Joe" host Mika Brzezinski. According to Dilanian, an "immediate" question in the case is: "Did this shooter have an ideological motive?.... What was the shooter's motive?
Later that morning at a press conference, FBI Director Kash Patel and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox offered an update on the new developments with Kirk's murder.

1. Family members played crucial role in suspect's arrest
During the presser, Cox stressed that information from Robinson's family members led to his arrest. The Utah governor told reporters that Robinson, according to family members, "had become more political in recent years" and mentioned that Kirk would be visiting the university where he was shot.
2. 'Bolt action rifle' consistent with shooting
Cox told reporters that the suspect, according to family members, planned to "retrieve a rifle from a drop point." That "bolt action rifle," Cox said, was consistent with the shooting.
3. Anti-fascist messaging link to weaponry
According to Cox, the suspect showed an interest in anti-fascist messaging — including quoting the Italian anti-fascist anthem "Bella Ciao." And the words "Hey, fascist" were on the bullet casing.
4. FBI director said shooting investigation moved at rapid pace
Patel told reporters, "We have made historic progress for Charlie…. Just last night, the suspect was taken into custody at 10 PM local time…. The suspect was (captured) in an historic time period."
The FBI director went on to say, "Forensic evidence has already been evaluated…. We have over 11,000 leads that were called into the FBI."
5. Suspect in state custody
Robinson may ultimately face federal charges. But so far, he is a Utah state facility rather than a federal detention center.
Cox told reporters, "Mr. Robinson has been booked into the Utah County Jail."
