Two Democratic Lawmakers Escorted Out by Police After Joining Hundreds Protesting Trump's Immigration Policies

Three Democratic lawmakers joined a group of protesters Thursday afternoon in Hart Senate Office Building, risking arrest as the demonstrators chanted in opposition to President Donald Trump's administration policies. 

Police began to arrest the protesters, associated with the Women's March, after they sat on the floor of the lobby and refused to leave. Washington Post reporter Dan Zak reported that Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) were escorted out of the protests by police — he said it was unclear whether they were being arrested.

Protesters chanted, "Where are the children?" and "This is what democracy looks like!" They wrapped themselves in silver blankets, similar to those immigrant children have been given in cages at detention centers.
