During the right-wing Turning Point USA Conference in Florida Sunday, United States Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) attempted to criticize President Joe Biden — and it backfired.
The Republican lawmaker spent much of her speech comparing Biden to former President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Greene began her spiel, saying, "Lyndon B. Johnson is very similar to Joe Biden. How are they the same? They're both Democrat socialists. Lyndon B. Johnson was the majority leader in the Senate. Does that sound familiar?"

Biden was never the Senate majority leader, and neither he nor LBJ self-identified as Democratic socialists.
LBJ, the GOP leader continued, "was vice president to Kennedy. Joe was vice president to Obama. He was appointed as the president after JFK was assassinated then he was elected. His big socialist programs were The Great Society. The Great Society were big government programs to address education, medical care, urban problems, rural poverty, transportation, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and welfare, the Office of Economic of Opportunity, and big labor and labor unions."
She added, "Now, LBJ had The Great Society, but Joe Biden had Build Back Better, and he still is working on it. The largest public investment and social infrastructure environmental programs that is actually finishing what FDR started, that LBJ expanded on, and Joe Biden is attempting to complete. Socialism. Meanwhile, we are now $32 trillion in debt with record-high homelessness, 40-year record inflation, we're losing the US dollar as the number one world currency, we're losing our freedoms, our government is one big fat bloated machine, and it's killing the American dream."
The New York Times reported on July 12 that economists were feeling hopeful "as the June inflation report shows annual inflation dropped even more than expected, to the lowest level since March of 2021." Furthermore, MarketWatch reported a day later, although inflation has plummeted across the country, it is dropping at slower rates in Florida, which is led by Republican Governor and 2024 GOP hopeful, Ron DeSantis.

Several journalists and educators mocked the far-right congresswoman for failing to realize her criticism of Biden could be confused for praise.
Senior Advisor at Everytown, Dr. Annie Andrews, said: "So he is, in the great tradition of democratic presidents, helping people? Oh the horror."
Mark Corn, DC Bureau Chief at Mother Jones commented: "Marjorie Taylor Greene reveals the new GOP strategy: run against FDR and LBJ!"
Ex-American Physiological Society Executive Director Martin Frank replied: "I don't see a problem with Biden seeking to complete the work of FDR and LBJ. I guess the GOP’s program involves screwing all those groups in order to benefit the rich."
Jonathan Chait, writer at New York Magazine, joked: "The one thing Biden has that FDR and LBJ could never dream of? A secret space laser operated by the Rothschilds."
CUNY Adjunct Assistant Professor Dr. Joseph Frusci asked: "Can she even spell socialism?"

Kevin M. Kruze, professor of history at Princeton University, added: "'Warning' that Joe Biden is going to create things like Medicare and Medicaid -- both wildly popular programs -- seems like an odd way to attack him, but have at it."
