'Run-of-the-mill lowlifes': Twitter blasts Republicans as 'Trump’s biggest fan' gushes over the ex-president
14 August 2023
Former President Donald "Trump loyalist" and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer took to Twitter to share her excitement from hanging out with the MAGA hopeful at his New Jersey Bedminster golf club Sunday.
In April, The New York Times reported that Trump "told aides" he wanted to hire the self proclaimed "pro-white nationalist" for his 2024 campaign, but after some aides were "said to have concerns that such a hire will cause a backlash, given her history of inflammatory statements and her embrace of the Republican Party's fringes" she was no longer tapped for a role.
The Timesreports:
Ms. Loomer twice ran unsuccessfully for Congress and is known for offensive attention-grabbing behavior. She once described Islam as a 'cancer' and tweeted under the hashtag '#proudislamophobe,' and she has celebrated the deaths of migrants crossing the Mediterranean.
In 2018, she was barred from Twitter for violating its hateful conduct policy. To protest the ban, Ms. Loomer, who is Jewish, affixed a yellow Star of David to her clothes — just as 'Nazis made the Jews wear during the Holocaust,' she said — and handcuffed herself to the entrance to Twitter's New York headquarters.
Twitter said she was violating its rules, while she said she was being barred for conservative activism. (She was reinstated after the billionaire Elon Musk bought the platform.)

On Sunday, Loomer tweeted, "Today was the best day of my life. I got to spend the entire day with the greatest President our country has ever had: DONALD J TRUMP! President Donald Trump is the most down to earth and amazing person ever. He is the best host. He is hilarious and he is also very generous and kind. I had a regular ticket for the #LivGolf tournament today, and he saw me when he was getting into his golf cart. He got out of his golf cart and told me to come to his box, and he walked over to me to take a picture with me, telling me how thankful he was for all of my work exposing @RonDeSantis DeSanctus."
Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?
She continued, "I was supposed to fly back to Florida today but I extended my trip after speaking in New York City so I could show up to Bedminster today to show support for President Trump since he's under attack by the DOJ nonstop. I had no idea if I would meet him, and just came to support him and film videos of all of his fans so I could show everyone how much his is loved by the people. I can't believe I ended up sitting next to him the entire day, eating with him and learning about golf. He wanted me to sit next to him all day, and it was the best day ever. He is truly one of a kind and there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do for him. I am so thankful for @RealDonaldTrump."
The conspiracy theorist concluded, "I really love him with all of my heart. And I appreciate him choosing to sit next to me today when there were tons of pro-athletes and major donors at the same event today who he could have easily had sit with him in his box instead. Donald Trump inspires me to never give up, he inspires me to be a fighter, and he has inspired me for years, even before he was a candidate for President. Everyone who knows me knows I am President Trump's biggest fan and have been since I was a teenager and in college where I was the President of College Republicans. I will be fighting as hard as I can to get him elected in 2024. And then once he’s elected, I will give up my entire life in Florida where I have lived for most of my adult life, and I will to move to DC to work for him and fight for him in the swamp where I will protect him from disloyal people… if he wants me to! I wouldn't even think twice about it. We all need to fight for Donald Trump! #Trump2024#MAGA"
Loomer shared a video of her encounter with the MAGA hopeful via Twitter, in which she said, "Hey everybody, we're here at Bedminster. I'm here with the greatest president ever — President Donald Trump, who is killing it right now. There's a new poll up, right? You're crushing it. You're up over 50 points, and it's a beautiful day here. Beautiful club. It's my first time here at Bedminster."
Trump chimed in, saying, "Well, it's great to have you. You're very special, you work hard. You are a very opinionated lady, I have to tell you that. And in my opinion, I like that. But I appreciate your support. Everybody appreciates your support."
Social media users, including journalists, political strategists and professors reacted to the video, suggesting that Loomer represents today's Republican Party.
Democracy Forward's Democracy and Social Progress Fellow Daniel Miller said: "Criminals, degenerates, racists, and just run-of-the-mill lowlifes are the lifeblood of any authoritarian movement."
MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan said: "A few years ago it would have been controversial even for Trump to be seen hosting and palling around with someone as openly loony and Islamophobic and bigoted as Loomer. But not anymore. Not in 2023. He'll never be asked about this. Not will any Republican electeds."
Hasan added: "This would have disqualified George Bush in 2000 and John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012 but not Trump in this 2024 race. The GOP is all in on white supremacy, racism, and bigotry. It's beyond the pale."
The Bulwark editor-in-chief Bill Kristol commented: "Today's GOP: No limits to the extremism, no boundaries to the craziness, no low too low, no bottom to the descent."
Former Democratic Texas congressional candidate Russell Foster said: "Back in the day, people would be disqualified for high office for spelling potato wrong. Now thanks to Republicans, candidates can say the very worst things & get huge applause. White nationalism is thriving as the frontrunners are hanging out with vile people like Laura Loomer."
Nathan R. Shrader, Millsaps College Associate Professor of Government and Politics and Director, American Studies commented: "This is sickening, but not even remotely shocking. He is who he is and he doesn't have any shame."
