As Donald Trump considers who he'll decide to be his running mate, the former president's son, Donald Trump Jr., earlier this month encouraged his father to choose "a fighter," according to Politico.
Former FBI counsel and co-author of The Trump Indictments: The Historic Charging Documents with Commentary, Andrew Weissmann wrote via X (formerly Twitter) Sunday that whoever the MAGA hopeful picks would not only be "a fighter," but also Trump's "partner in crime" — literally.
"The Trump VP sweepstakes is literally his looking for a partner in crime," Weissman wrote.

The Atlantic contributing editor Norman Orstein replied: "And from Burgum to Little Marco to Stefanik to Scott to Vance, it is a collection of lickspittles and sycophants who will promise to do anything, no matter how illegal."
Filmmaker Dawn Westlake wrote: "That really is the question: Who is willing to go to prison with trump?"
In a May 7 article published by the conservative website, The Bulwark, journalist Will Saletan wrote, "Lots of ambitious (Republicans) are angling for the job, sucking up at Mar-a-Lago and on national TV. Normally, contenders for the vice presidency would showcase their accomplishments, their communication skills, or their ability to carry a key state. But in Trump's case, the rules are different. He's an authoritarian crook, and the contestants are competing to show how far they'd go to defend his crimes and his abuse of power."
Saletan named six possible contenders, including, US Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), US Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), US Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), North Dakota Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem, US Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

Earlier this month, Politico added two names to the list: US Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK), and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.
