Trump and Vance’s 'caught on tape' problem is pushing women voters to Harris: report

After hosting a recent focus group, conservative pollster Frank Luntz warned fellow Republicans that 2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), have a major problem with women voters — including those who have voted Republican in the past. Even some women who hold conservative views, according to Luntz, appeared to be favoring Democratic nominee Kamala Harris over Trump.

Luntz, during a mid-August appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," told host Mika Brzezinski, "These are ex-Republicans, ex-conservatives who are looking at Trump and his personality, the whole Trump/Vance ticket — and they are saying: This is not what I want."

In an article published on August 16, Axios reporters Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen stress that Trump and Vance's "caught on tape" moments and the way they "talk about the other gender" are hurting them with female voters.

The Axios reporters point out that Vance's "issue with women is different" from Trump's but "equally problematic."

"For Trump, it's his unusual vulgar and sexist language," VandeHei and Allen explain. "For Vance, it's anachronistic-sounding views on the role of women in modern society."

VandeHei and Allen note that "women are more reliable voters than men," adding that "polls suggest they'll reliably vote by big margins for Vice President Harris."

"A Quinnipiac poll out this week found a gender gulf among likely voters in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania: Women backed Harris 54 percent to 41 percent, while men went for Trump, 49 percent to 42 percent," the journalists report. "Overall, Harris was up 48 percent to 45 percent. This vulnerability for Trump and Vance is driven partly by moments that are caught on tape and impossible to deny."

VandeHei and Allen add, "Shortly after President Biden's disastrous debate, former President Trump was sitting on a golf cart, casually saying Harris is 'so f*****g bad.' Off camera, The New York Times reported, he was calling her a 'bitch.'"
