The 2026 mid-terms are quickly approaching, and based on the latest pre-election poll results Republicans could be in big trouble on Election Day.
Which explains why Trump’s campaign appearances are slated to increase in the coming weeks, but one of his most loyal supporters and political colleagues will not be in attendance when Trump hits Texas.
Per Newsweek, when Trump arrives in San Antonio on Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a campaign rally, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will not be there to join him.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Ben Wermund of The Houston Chronicle provided more in-depth details about Abbott’s upcoming absence.
“@GregAbbott_TX says he will not be at Trump event in San Antonio this week because he has other campaign events already planned,” he wrote.
Wermund then shared a quote from Abbott about Trump’s Texas visit.
"Whenever he does show up, it leads to excitement with the base. He does a good job with getting the base organized and turning out,” Abbott reportedly said.
However, that was just one development following the revelation, as many quickly took the news of Abbott skipping Trump’s rally as a snub — and an instance that would not have likely occurred prior to the current dire state of the Republican Party and Trump himself.
Staunch MAGA critic Rick Wilson also took to X to share his thoughts on a possible rift or forthcoming drama by writing a simple sentence.
”I sense doom,” Wilson wrote.
Wilson, who is the co-founder of The Lincoln Project created in 2019 to oppose Trump’s 2020 reelection, has been a fierce and ongoing critic of Trump for several years after switching parties from Republican to Independent.
According to Newsweek, Wednesday’s appearance will mark Trump’s third visit to the state in less than a month to drum up support for mid-term Republican candidates — whose pre-polling numbers are far from comforting.
Specifically in the race between Abbott and Democratic candidate Gina Hinojosa, a recent NewYork Times/Siena Poll revealed that she was in the lead.
Additionally, a poll from RealClearPolling shows Abbott just barely beating out Hinojosa with an extremely slim two percent lead.
