This worker admits Trump is 'hurting' her company — but thinks he’s doing a 'fantastic job'

Democrats often cite a variety of ways in which they believe that President Donald Trump's policies will hurt Americans who voted for him in 2024, from tariffs to mass deportations to the severe Medicaid and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) cuts in the "big, beautiful bill" he is expected to sign into law on the 4th of July. And Democratic strategists are hoping that their arguments will get through to independents and swing voters in the 2026 midterms.

But many MAGA voters remain loyal to Trump regardless of how his policies are affecting them personally, including an Iowa worker interviewed by far-right media figure Christina Loren on July 3.

Karen Sergeson, who works in a warehouse in Des Moines, told Loren — a host for Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN) — that Trump's tariffs are hurting her employer. But she praised Trump anyway.

"I work for a company, Detroit Stoker, and they do industrial boiling," Sergeson told Loren. "The system that moves it into the furnaces, we have customers all over. But the tariffs is really hurting that company right now because the parts are coming from China, the castings. And the tariffs, we've got a lot of stock that is supposed to go out of country…. And it’s sitting on our dock because the customer doesn't want to accept it because of the tariffs right now…. We've had numerous containers come in the last couple weeks because we’ve been storing it in a bonded warehouse before it comes to us, saving us money to try to pass this to the customers."

Sergeson, however, echoed Trump's claim that his tariffs will benefit the U.S. economically in the long run — a claim that many economists strongly disagree with, including Robert Reich and Paul Krugman.

Sergeson told Loren, "The people I work with, when they did the tariffs, because it's hurting our company, they were so mad. I go, 'Listen, this is going to be temporary, but it's for the future. It's for your kids' futures. Something's got to happen; otherwise, the country will go broke."

When Loren asked Sergeson what she would like to say to Trump, the Iowa factory worker responded, "You’re doing a fantastic job. Keep it up, and you're making America great again."
