Latest far-right conspiracy blames Women and DEI for Trump rally shooting: report

Since the Saturday, July 13 rally shooting that left former President Donald Trump injured, one attendee and the suspected shooter dead, several Republican leaders have placed blame on President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

According to NBC News, US Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) wrote on social media that Butler County's GOP attorney general should "file charges against Joseph R. Biden for inciting an assassination," while US Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) "wrote that 'Democrats and liberals in the media have called Trump a fascist. They’ve compared him to Hitler.'"

However, according to a Monday report published by WIRED, other MAGA supporters are blaming the shooting on something else: women and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) practices.

Per the report, "Hundreds of posts on X" written by right-wing pundits and influencers strongly criticize "a number of female Secret Service agents who were part of Trump’s close protection detail on Saturday," and call for Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle to be fired.

"Dozens" of the posts "have more than 1 million views, according to a review conducted by WIRED and researchers at Advance Democracy, a nonprofit organization that conducts public interest research," the report notes.

WIRED also notes that several social media posts include a video clip from a CBS interview earlier this year with Cheatle, "where she discussed increasing the number of female agents in the service to 30 percent as part of a diversity initiative."

Chaya Raichik, founder of the far-right and anti-LGBT Libs of TikTok account X account, wrote, "This female agent couldn’t even holster her gun today during the attempted assassination of Trump. DEI hire?"

The conservative Washington Times reported that some photos from the incident "seemed to show the female agents were too short to properly shield the Republican front-runner once he stood up. Mr. Trump stands 6 feet, 3 inches tall."

The right-wing newspaper added, "As Mr. Trump was loaded into his getaway vehicle, one of the female agents was seen struggling to holster her pistol."
