Trump supporters want criminal charges against cops who protected congressmembers from rioters
01 December 2023
2024 GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has made it abundantly clear that if he returns to the White House in January 2025, he will grant pardons to the extremists who violently attacked the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. But Trump is now taking it a step further by sharing a post that calls for police who were at the Capitol that day to face criminal charges for using excessive force against the rioters.
On November 27, MAGA duo Kevin and Keith Hodge, a.k.a. the Hodgetwins, posted a tweet on X, formerly Twitter, that read, "The Capitol cops beat the hell out of innocent J6 protesters, and the videos are finally coming out. The cops should be charged and the protesters should be freed. This is why the uniparty didn't want the videos released."
Trump liked that tweet enough to repost it on his own social media platform, Truth Social.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?
When a mob of Trump supporters violently attacked the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, police officers tried to hold them back — realizing that members of Congress were in physical danger. Outside the Capitol, some Trump supporters were chanting, "Hang Mike Pence" and set up a hangman's gallows.
Some of the rioters who broke into the Capitol said they were specifically looking for then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California), and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) has said that she literally feared for her life that day in addition to fearing that she would be sexually assaulted.
Conservative former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) has cited the January 6 insurrection as one of the many reasons why Trump should never be president again.
