'The devil himself': Trump high-rise residents call for building name change

A suburban New York City high-rise called the Trump Plaza is in need of a new name, many residents say, according to The Guardian.

The news outlet reports the 40-story building owners "are in the middle of a vote which would further erase Trump’s name – something which would not just have implications for the people who live in the building," but also for the "residents and workers in" the "racially diverse city" of New Rochelle.

"I don’t like him," a New Rochelle resident named Yvette told the Guardian. "He did too much ugliness. And it’s not like he tried to hide it, he did it in plain sight."

She added, "Talking about people, s—tholes. He’s just the devil himself. That’s how I look at it, I don’t care for it. And I hope he gets what he deserves."

The Guardian also notes that Trump Plaza condo board President Greg Root told the conservative New York Post "that a 'silent majority' of owners supported the name change,'" while the Post, "which broke the news of the prospective change, claimed that about 24 people opposed the change, although the paper was only able to provide evidence of people from two apartments."

Another resident, Delva Domond, said the name change "would be perfect." She added, "Because we go to New Roc, the movie theater, all the time. When we come around, we have to pass his building. So I’m always like: 'Man, why don’t they take his sign down?'

“I’ve been saying that for a couple of years now. And so, you know, I’ll be glad if they take it down."

Domond emphasized Trump has "always had a bad reputation in New York," saying, "He does construction, he doesn’t pay his contractors. So that was one thing that, even before he became president, we were aware of that in New York. So I never liked him personally."
