Mehdi Hasan suggests Dems 'shut down as a political party' if they don’t 'run on' this Trump move

When President Donald Trump pardoned nearly 1,500 defendants charged and/or convicted over their participation in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol last week, the MAGA leader was met with criticism even from former Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

"No one should excuse violence," the longtime senator told Semafor. "And particularly violence against police officers."

Now, Democrats are being urged to rally against the president's move, especially after Trump bragged about the pardons to a Las Vegas crowd of MAGA supporters on Saturday night.

"I've pardoned hundreds of political prisoners who had been politically persecuted by the Biden regime," Trump told the crowd. "Hundreds of people were persecuted, including Christians, pro-life activists, two Washington, DC police officers yesterday, whose lives were destroyed from chasing down a dangerous, illegal alien criminal."

The president added, "And, of course, I was very proud to pardon the J6 hostages."

Ex-MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan urged Democrats to take advantage of the pardons, which former U.S District Judge Shira Scheindlin called "legally authorized but constitutionally unpardonable."

"If Democrats can’t run on this, can’t use this to their advantage (the vast majority of Americans opposed this shocking and scandalous move!), then they should shut down as a political party and give up doing politics," Hasan wrote via X.
