NBC gets more criticism from legal experts over 'insufficient' detail of Trump’s threat to democracy

Judge Juan Merchan's gag order imposed on Donald Trump earlier this week in his New York hush money case was not enough to keep the former president from attacking both Merchan and his daughter — by name — several times in less than a week.

In the MAGA hopeful's latest attack, he shared the link via Truth Social Saturday night of a New York Post article, which included photos of the judge and his daughter.

As legal experts demand the gag order be tightened, some are not pleased with NBC's Kristen Welker's description of the ex-president's attacks during the Sunday, March 31 episode of Meet the Press.

Welker said, "This week the former president stepped up his attacks on the judge and his family in the New York hush money case, after that judge imposed a partial gag order on Mr. Trump less than three from the April 15 start date in that trial. And now Trump is asserting that none of the trials should take place 'during my campaign,' falsely calling the criminal proceedings 'election interference.'"

The NBC host emphasized, "It is yet another reminder that we are covering this election against the backdrop of a deeply divided nation."

Conservative lawyer George Conway replied, "It would be more to the point to say, 'We are covering this election against the backdrop of one of the candidates being a narcissistic sociopath.'"

New York University law professor Ruth Ben-Ghiat said, "This is totally insufficient to the gravity and magnitude of the threat"

Former CNN White House correspondent John Harwood commented, "we're covering an election in which the leader of one of our two major parties is a deranged criminal acting like a mob boss to muscle his way out of deep legal jeopardy."

Ex-Marie Claire contributing editor Karen Schwartz said, "Ah yes criminal psychopaths vs the rest of us."

Criticism for Welker's words follow ongoing backlash NBC has received since the network recently hired — then fired — former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel within days, after several prominent commentators denounced, on-air, NBC's decision to hire the longtime election denying GOP leader.
