On Friday, former White House Press Secretary Anthony Scaramucci took to social media to plead with President Donald Trump's top officials to start the process of removing President Donald Trump "before it gets worse." His call comes shortly after Trump announced that senior advisor Stephen Miller would replace Susie Wiles as chief of staff, which prompted widespread outcry that the president and his allies had not gotten the midterm message.
"[Vice President JD] Vance and [Secretary of State Marco] Rubio should move quickly," asserted Scaramucci, who himself is no stranger to White House chaos, having served a famously eclectic stint in Trump's first administration. "Work with the cabinet or the senate and seek Trump’s removal to start the process of trying to rebuild the party before it gets worse." Scaramucci is referring to the 25th Amendment, which allows for Trump's removal if the vice president, a cabinet majority, and Senate agree he is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." Essentially, Trump's former press secretary is asserting that Miller's appointment constitutes a dereliction of duty.
Miller has been a key force behind some of the administration's most unpopular actions. He helmed the slew of executive orders Trump signed in the first 100 days of his second term, is one of the chief proponents of Trump's mass deportation scheme and the aggressive tactics used by ICE, has been an architect of Trump's weaponization of the Justice Department against MAGA's political opponents, and spearheads much of the White House's anti-press stance. As many have noted, Miller's promotion will likely contribute to the administration's most extreme tendencies, for which the GOP was just firmly rebuked in the midterms. According to New Yorker staff writer Susan Glasser, the message in Miller's appointment was clear: "Trump to the Voters: Screw You."
Scaramucci -- who previously called for Trump's removal due to genocidal statements he made regarding Iran -- isn't the only one from Trump's orbit sounding the alarm about the situation. "I spent two years working with Stephen Miller," posted Miles Taylor, who served as Homeland Security's Deputy Chief of Staff during Trump's first term. "His appointment as White House chief of staff is among the most dangerous personnel decisions in the history of our republic. I say that without reservation." And according to Trump biographer Seth Abramson, "I would certainly read into the flood of DOJ resignations we're seeing that at least some of these people know what's coming with Stephen Miller as Chief of Staff and — despite long being fascist-curious themselves — feel that the coming storm is beyond anything even they can stomach."
