'Buyers' remorse': Some Supreme Court Justices may regret letting Trump think he's a 'king'

Legal analyst and former MSNBC commentator Katie Phang has strongly criticized the Supreme Court's Tuesday ruling allowing the Trump administration to enforce a ban on transgender troops serving in the military, calling it "incredibly disappointing."

During a podcast on The Bulwark released Wednesday, Phang told host Tim Miller that a naval pilot with 18 years of combat missions, including Iraq, was also affected by the ban because she chose transition. "Commander Emily Shilling was booted out of the United States Navy simply because she made the decision to transition in 2021," Phang said.

The court's ruling on the emergency application, issued on Tuesday, upheld the ban without explanation. The three liberal justices dissented but offered no reasons.

Phang further said on the podcast that the Supreme Court judges, who have a lifetime appointment, need to "hold the line when it comes to the rule of law" and challenge Trump.

"He is not listening to what you are saying. There has to be some buyer's remorse about allowing Trump to think he is a king," the analyst said, adding that the idea of presidential immunity has gone to the president head.

She said the court's recent decisions are making one think "who is really making decisions at the SCOTUS right now?"

She added that the administration is challenging the court on many fronts. Speaking about the the case of a Maryland man wrongfully deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration, Phang said, "You have this 9-0 decision that comes out and Donald Trump stands there and he lies to the American public and is like that's not what my poeple told me. Well, you and I both know thats b-------.," she said.

"I don't think people are telling him something different. He knows exactly what the truth is when it comes to that decision," Phang added.
