'I don’t care': Trump ripped for ignoring economy to rant about Biden during Hannity interview

On Wednesday, January 22, Fox News' Sean Hannity interviewed President Donald Trump, marking the first time he answered questions from the right-wing media outlet since returning to the White House. Hannity's critics were quick to dismiss the conversation as a "softball interview," and Trump spent a lot of time railing against former President Joe Biden.

Hannity, at one point in the interview, gently tried to change the subject — telling Trump, "I want to get to the economy. I'm running out of time." Trump responded, "I don't care. This is more important because right now, the economy is going to do great." And he continued to attack Biden.

The Hill's Brett Samuels offered some takeaways from the interview, noting Trump's obsession with Biden and the president describing the January 6, 2021 attacks on police officers as "minor incidents."

The interview has received numerous reactions on X, formerly Twitter. And some X users complained that Trump was too busy obsessing over his disdain for Biden to address the economic issues that inspired many Americans to vote for him in 2024.

University of North Carolina legal scholar Charles DeLoach posted, "It can be really hard to watch something like this and know that millions of people think he cares about them. It's all just a big personal grievance project for him, and we all have to pay the price for it."

Journalist Aaron Rupar highlighted Trump's "I don't care" comment when Hannity was trying to get him to talk about the economy.

Democrat Timothy Bellman wrote, "Trump has no more boogeyman, and he can’t actually deliver on the economy. That's the takeaway."

The Arizona Republic's Bill Goodykoontz is highly critical of the interview, slamming Hannity as Trump's "faithful lapdog."

@AZCentral tweeted, "Trump's Sean Hannity interview wasn't journalism. It was a disgrace."

Time and the Associated Press noted that during the interview, "Trumps says he may withhold aid to California until it adjusts how it manages water."

In the UK, The Independent noted Trump's "cryptic message about Biden's pardons."
