Daily Show host brutally mocks Republicans rushing to defend Trump’s 'dumb ideas'
09 January
During a Tuesday, January 7 press conference at Mar-a-Lago, President-elect Donald Trump not only doubled down on his proposal to buy Greenland — he also wouldn't rule out the possibility of using military force against Denmark. Greenland is a territory of Denmark, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and longtime ally of the United States.
Trump's supporters, following the presser, have been quick to defend Trump's ideas on Greenland. And comedian/actress Desi Lydic, hosting "The Daily Show," brutally mocked those defenders during a January 8 broadcast.
"As you probably heard," Lydic told viewers, "Trump has decided that his first big policy proposal will be buying or perhaps invading Greenland. It's the kind of nonsense no one should take seriously, but Trump said it. So I guess we're all doing this."

Lydic went on to show a collage of Trump supporters endorsing his Greenland ideas, including Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida) telling Fox Business' Stuart Varney, "It would be exciting if Greenland was part of the United States" — and Fox News'
Ainsley Earhardt telling her "Fox & Friends" colleagues, "Greenland, strategically, makes sense…. It would make sense to have that for war purposes."
In response, Lydic commented, "This is just so sad. I know she was trying to be supportive, but you could tell even Ainsley thinks this is a bad idea…. Can you imagine how exhausting it is to treat every one of Trump's dumb ideas like it's a work of art?"
Lydic went on to reference the devastating wildfires that Los Angeles County has been suffering, lamenting that "Trump is giving us a reminder about what his leadership looks like during times of crisis."
"While everyone else is deeply concerned about what is going on in Los Angeles right now," Lydic mockingly said, "Trump is handling the tragedy like the statesman he is."

Lydic pointed to a January 8 Truth Social post in which Trump blamed California Gov. Gavin Newsom — who he called "Gavin Newscum" — for the L.A. wildfires.
"In the midst of chaos," the comedian/actress commented, "Donald Trump is taking action by opening up the strategic nickname reserve."
